ECSU celebrates Black History Month

ECSU will host a series of public events during February-Black History Month: The Black History Month exhibit at G. R. Little Library will remain on display from February 1 – 29 in the first floor lobby of the Library. The exhibit will feature materials from the University Archives and the G. R. Little Library relating to Dr. Carter G. Woodson., including: Woodson’s &quotThe History of the Negro Church&quot and other volumes issues of the Journal of Negro History founded by Woodson Association of the Study for Negro Life &amp History Bulletin (May, 1950) memorializing Woodson at his death 1936 poster. The School of Math Science and Technology will celebrate Black History Month during the week of Feb. 4 – 8, 2008 at its annual &quotResearch Week Activities&quot. February 4, 3 pm – 5 pm, A panel discussion featuring,&quot Major African American Contributors in Mathematics, Science and Technology,&quot in room #206 of the Ridley Student Center. February 5, 11 am – 12.20 pm: Mentoring and Graduate School Seminars Dr. Howard Adams of H.G. Adams and Associates, Inc., &quotWhy you should choose graduate school&quot in room #206 Dr. Linda Hayden presiding February 5, 2 pm – 3:30 pm, (faculty session) &quotHow to Mentor Student,&quot room #138 of the Jenkins Science Center. February 6, 3 pm – 4 pm in room #206 of the Ridley Student Center. Dr. Leona Harris, of the College of New Jersey, Department of Mathematics and Statistics , presents, &quotModeling the Fate and Transport of a Common Household Chemical in the Body Following Oral Exposure.&quot February 7, 11 am – 4 pm, room #206 of the Ridley Student Center: Research and Graduate School Fair February 7, 2 pm – 3:30 pm, Mathematics, Science and Technology Science Bowl Competition with Dr. H. Leon Pringle presiding. February 8, Art exhibit opening reception: 6 pm – 8 pm in the Art Gallery of the Fine Arts Center featuring assorted works by Professor Ricky Calloway, of Fort Valley State University in Fort Valley, Georgia. Calloway, a printmaker, painter and graphic designer will present assorted works that will remain on display throughout the month. February 8, 9 am – 11 a.m. in the K. E. White Graduate Center: Demonstrations from the Virginia Air and Space Center February 8, 11:30 am – 1 pm, NASA Astronaut Dr. Bernard Harris presents, &quotAn Astronaut’s View: The Power of the Dream.&quot February 12, 11 am -12:30 pm in the K E White, sponsored by the Department of History and Political Science and the Lyceum program: a forum on &quotThe Future of HBCUs&quot the program will feature three panelists: Dr. Marybeth Gasman from the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. James T.
