ECSU celebrates American Education Week November 13 – 19

November 15, 2005 The School of Education and Psychology at Elizabeth City State University will observe American Education Week, November 13-19, 2005. Dr. Dudley E. Flood, a former administrator with the Department of Public Instruction, a renowned speaker and a published author, will provide this year’s American Education Week Assembly keynote address at 10 a.m. on November 17, in the Floyd L Robinson Auditorium of the Mickey L. Burnim Fine Arts Center. Teachers-of-the-year from the 21 surrounding counties will be recognized during the program. Dr. Flood was born in Winton, North Carolina. He earned a bachelor’s degree from North Carolina Central University, a master’s degree from East Carolina University and a doctorate degree from Duke University. He has received more than 300 awards for civic service. He has spoken or conducted workshops in 48 of the 50 United States, the District of Columbia, Bermuda, Canada and Germany. He currently serves on the Board of Governors for the University of North Carolina. Dr. Flood has been a visiting professor at Meredith College and the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Currently, he teaches at the Principals Executive Program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. This year’s theme for American Education Week, &quotA Strong America Starts with Great Public Schools,&quot highlights the importance of bringing together teachers, school staff, parents, students, and communities in an effort to build great public schools.
