Campus Police make arrest in a series of bomb threats

Elizabeth City State University announces an arrest in a series of bomb threats phoned in to the university over the last two weeks. Campus Police arrested Douglas Marcus Cox, and charged him with seven counts of making false bomb threats. Cox is currently enrolled at the university. He appeared before the magistrate and was transported to Albemarle District Jail. ECSU Campus Police Chief Beamon said the arrest was made after an intense investigation that included phone tabs. He applauds the cooperation of the local phone company and area cell phone providers to help identify the caller. He greatly appreciates the help of area police officers and fire department officials to patrol the perimeter of the buildings affected by the bomb threats and assisting with crowd control. ECSU maintenance and safety officers assisted Campus Police in searching the buildings after the threats arrived by phone. ECSU Chancellor Willie Gilchrist said the university remains steadfast in offering outstanding educational opportunities for the students who are determined to achieve but and those who violate the law will be subject to the full punishment of the judicial system.
