Baseball Vikings play in CIAA tournament April 20

April 19, 2006 The Elizabeth City State University Vikings baseball team will begin play at the 2006 CIAA Baseball Tournament at 10 am Thursday morning in Petersburg, VA. The #2 seeded Vikings, who finished the regular season at 20-12 overall (CIAA 11-5), will square off against the #3Shaw University Bears at Whaley Colbert Field on the Virginia State University campus. The Bears and Vikings met in CIAA doubleheaders twice this season, once in Raleigh, once in Elizabeth City. Both teams defended their home turf with Bears sweeping the Vikings on March 25th 12-2 and 7-6. This past Saturday, April 15 the Vikings returned the favor defeating Shaw 12-3 and 6-5. The other tournament participants, the #1Virginia State University Trojans and the #4 Saint Augustine’s College Falcons, will follow the Bears and Vikings at 1:00pm. The winners the first two games will advance to play on Friday while the two losers face off at 4:00pm in an attempt to stay alive in the double elimination tournament. All games for the 2006 CIAA Baseball Tournament will take place on the campus of Virginia State University.
