During American Education Week, November 12-16, 2007, Americans nationwide will join the National Education Association (NEA) in raising awareness about the need to provide every child with a quality public education. This year’s celebration highlights the importance of bringing together educators, parents, students, and communities in a unified effort to build great public schools. It also reflects NEA’s vision of calling upon America to provide public school students with quality schools so that they can grow and achieve in the 21st century. As our world becomes more economically global we recognize the importance of education worldwide. Elizabeth City State University will be celebrating International Education Week as events are planned to address not only education in America, but education internationally. Elizabeth City State University invites the community to their International and American Education Week Celebration, on Thursday, November 15th at 10 am in the Mickey L. Burnim Fine Arts Center and Floyd L Robinson Auditorium, as they honor the University of North Carolina Governors’ Teachers of the Year, ECSU’s Departmental Teachers of the Year, Teachers of the Year from the twenty-one surrounding counties, and the Teachers of the Year of our partnering colleges and community colleges (Roanoke-Chowan College, Martin Community College, Roanoke Bible College, College of the Albemarle and Halifax Community College). This year’s highlighted speaker, Mr. James Bell, North Carolina Teacher of the Year 2007-2008, is an eighth grade English teacher at Chowan Middle School, Edenton-Chowan Public Schools.
