Alumni advance toward fundraising goals; $100,000 in hand
National Alumni Association officials say they are making great progress in their quest to raise $300,000 for Elizabeth City State University. On October 18, Dr. Jeanette Evans presented Chancellor Stacey Franklin Jones with a $20,000 check from the NAA. She assured the Chancellor more would follow. Alumni successfully raised over $100,000 as a result of 14 contestants participating in the annual alumni competition that ended on October 15. Evans said that additional funds will be added in March when ECSU observes Founders Day, the university’s 125th anniversary.
“Our overall goal for the year ending June 30, 2016 is $300,000. It was my pleasure to present the $20,000 check from alumni during the Homecoming Prayer Breakfast last Sunday. We hope to present a total of $125,000 at the 2016 Founders Day Gala in March,” Evans said.
“We would like to see more recent graduates involved in fundraising efforts. Through the chapters they will retain their social connection to the university and find different ways to contribute to the university that educated them.”
Evans often assures young alumni in the early stages of their careers with growing families that donations can be scheduled to occur quarterly, bi-annually or annually. The goal is to involve as many alumni as possible.
“The funds raised by our 14 alumni contestants and by alumni chapters were collected from November 2014 through September 2015. The funds raised support student recruitment, scholarships and NAA operations.”
