Academic Affairs holds workshop to improve student success rates

The Division of Academic Affairs recently held an Academic Quality Institute for ECSU faculty. The purpose of the workshop was to improve student success. Teresa Farnum, president of Teresa Farnum &amp Associates, Inc. (TFA), was their guest presenter. The New Boston, NH consulting firm is one of the country’s top resources for helping colleges and universities increase student retention. They offer a full spectrum of consulting and research services, ranging from guiding institutions through the development of student retention initiatives, to student recruitment assessments, to faculty development workshops, to constructing statistical models that predict student behavior. Dr. Ali Khan, provost and vice chancellor for the Division of Academic Affairs, said the institute was another example of faculty and staff’s commitment to excellence. &quotWe want to cultivate leadership skills among our faculty and staff so workshops this this one are useful in meeting that objective. This workshop helped participants improve their skills related to tutoring, mentoring, counseling and advising,&quot Khan said. &quotAll of those services are necessary in the ongoing effort to retain students, so they will complete all the courses in their degree programs and graduate.
