ECSU Hosts NC Association of Historians Annual Meeting

ECSU history professor, Dr. Melissa Stuckey, will be this year’s keynote speaker at the annual North Carolina Association of Historians conference. ECSU is hosting the virtual event March 26.

On Friday, March 26, the history program at Elizabeth City State University will host the 2021 North Carolina Association of Historians annual meeting. 

The conference begins at 9:30 a.m. and will bring together college faculty, public history professionals, and students from North Carolina and beyond. Participants will be presenting on diverse topics, from baby contests at the North Carolina State Fair to American GI Lou Glist in China and India. 

ECSU history professor, Dr. Melissa Stuckey, will present the keynote address on Friday evening.

“I am excited and honored that our History program is hosting this year’s North Carolina Association of Historians Annual Meeting,” said Dr. Chyna Crawford, chair of the Department of Social Sciences. “Our History faculty are producing research in all areas. I look forward to hearing some of the presentations, especially that of our very own Dr. Stuckey.”

The 2020 conference, scheduled to meet at the University of North Carolina – Wilmington during the first weeks of the statewide stay-at-home order, was cancelled.  This year, planners have instead scheduled Zoom meetings.

“It is critically important to bring historians in all stages of their careers together to advance new ideas, opinions and discussions to move the discipline forward,” said North Carolina Association of Historians president, Dr. Michael Kennedy, of High Point University. “If virtual conferencing is what is available, we need to take advantage of the technology that makes this possible rather than waiting another year for face-to-face meetings. We should embrace this opportunity and enjoy the interaction, though at a distance.”
