Vice Chancellor Gary Brown Keynote Speaker for ECSU Constitution Day Celebration

Elizabeth City State University will celebrate Constitution Day with an event at the Mickey L. Burnim Fine Arts Center, Tuesday, Sept. 17, 11 a.m. to noon.

The late morning celebration of the signing of the U.S. Constitution on Sept. 17, 1787, will feature a posting of the colors, opening remarks from Chancellor Karrie Dixon, musical selection from the ECSU String Ensemble, and keynote speaker, Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs Gary Brown, introduced by history professor, Dr. Glen Bowman.

Vice Chancellor Brown is a native of El Paso, Texas and a graduate of Prince George’s County Public School System in Maryland.  He is a magna cum laude graduate of North Carolina Central University with a Bachelor’s degree in History.

After completion of his bachelor’s degree, he went on to earn a Master of Education with a concentration in Higher Education Administration from North Carolina State University and a Master of Divinity Degree from Shaw University. He is currently in the dissertation phase of a Doctor of Philosophy degree from North Carolina A & T State University.

ECSU history professor, Dr. Melissa Stuckey, will present Vice Chancellor Brown with a token of thanks for his speech. University Provost Farrah Ward will give closing remarks.

Dr. Kevin Kupietz, assistant professor of Emergency Management, will preside over the hour-long event. The ECSU and Elizabeth City community is invited to celebrate Constitution Day.
