As ECSU Day of Giving Approaches More Donors Needed

It’s Day of Giving season and Elizabeth City State University is holding the 3^rd annual event on Friday, May 31. The goal this year is to raise $200,000 from more than 1,891 donors in commemoration of the university’s founding year of 1891, and while the dollar figure has been met, more donors are needed, says ECSU’s Interim Vice Chancellor of University Advance Letitia Evans.

“Our Viking family and friends have risen to the occasion to give in a big way and we appreciate it tremendously,” said Evans. “Our goal is to have at least 1891 donors on board by May 31. There’s still time for us to exceed that goal.”

Giving began in April with the launch of the campaign. The event will culminate with The Day of Giving on May 31, and volunteers working the phones to raise funds.

Evans says, however, that it is important for a university to have a large number of donors, regardless of the dollar amount. The more donors, the more funding becomes available.

“Alumni giving and engagement is important,” she explained. “When potential funders see that an institution’s alumni are supportive of their alma mater, it adds credence to the institution and the academic programs and services it offers.”

Proceeds from the ECSU Day of Giving 2019 will support a wide variety of initiatives that include general scholarships, faculty research, academic programs such as aviation and education, athletics, public radio station WRVS-FM 89.9, the Veterans Center, and more. With broad support from alumni and supporters, ECSU is committed to their role as a leading regional community partner for many years to come.

During the ECSU Day of Giving, donors can engage in several challenges to build camaraderie and generate excitement: Decade/Class Year Challenge, ECSU Department Challenge, Greek-Letter Organization Challenge, Student Challenge, IGTAM (I Give Ten A Month) Challenge, and the Community Challenge.
