2019 Spring Honors Convocation Recognizes Student Achievement
ECSU Chancellor Karrie Dixon addresses students during the 2019 Spring Honors Convocation Thursday, April 25.
The 2019 Elizabeth City State University Spring Honors Convocation was held Thursday, April 25 in the Mickey L. Burnim Fine Arts Complex. Students, their families, faculty and staff gathered to honor the best and brightest of ECSU.
This year’s keynote speaker was Rachel Lowe.
Lowe is a native of Edenton, North Carolina. She came to Elizabeth City State University in Fall 2015 as an honors graduate from John A. Holmes High School in Edenton.
Lowe is double majoring in chemistry and biology. Her areas of concentration are pre-health professionals and pre-medicine. Lowe is also a four-year member of the University Honors Program.
A perennial member of the Chancellor’s List, Rachel currently maintains a 3.95 grade point average. Throughout her college years, Lowe has taken advantage of numerous opportunities to develop her discipline’s research skills.
Lowe has worked on a number of research projects both here at ECSU, and through other university programs. Between 2017 and 2018, Rachel also served as vice-president of ECSU’s Pre-Pharmacy, Pre-Medical & Health Professions Alliance. Rachel’s demonstrated potential in the classroom, laboratory, a meeting room led to her being named a Glaxosmithkline Women’s Scholar in spring 2018.
Lowe will be applying to graduate programs in pharmacy next year.
After Lowe’s speech, numerous Vikings were honored for academic excellence. You can see the list of names here, and photographs from the event HERE.
