ECSU hosts state math science competition

April 18 2005The North Carolina Mathematics and Science Education Network (MSEN) Pre-College Program will host its annual state competitions at Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) on April 23 2005. High school and middle school students will vie for state champion titles in math science and engineering writing and art competitions. The event will bring 750 students program directors chaperones and volunteers to the campus. Participating universities include Fayetteville State University North Carolina A T University UNC Chapel Hill Winston-Salem State University and ECSU. ECSU hosts its Saturday Academy classes during the months of October through April in the Jimmy R Jenkins Science Center and Moore Hall. Participating students are in grades 6 through 12. Students arrive by bus from six neighboring counties: Bertie Chowan Gates Hertford Pasquotank and Perquimans counties. The NC-MSEN Pre-College Program offers a rigorous curriculum in mathematics science communications and career awareness. The program also holds a one-week residential Summer Scholars Program on the ECSU campus.
