Elizabeth City State University’s bachelor’s degree program in engineering technology has been accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission (ETAC) of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) Inc. ABET is the recognized accrediting body of college and university programs in applied science computing engineering and engineering technology.
“ABET accreditation is an important step for the University and fulfilling our goal of innovation workforce development for our region and the entire state” said ECSU Chancellor Stacey Franklin Jones. “It further demonstrates the high quality of our engineering technology program commitment of our faculty and staff and reinforces to our students that their degree is industry-relevant."
The engineering technology curriculum emphasizes hands-on learning with real-world projects to teach skills needed for today’s engineers and technologists. The curriculum is designed to give students a strong foundation in core engineering technology concepts and to tailor their courses of study in focused areas such as computer and information technology.
“We are thrilled to have been awarded the maximum allowed term of accreditation – six years” said Department of Technology Chair Dr. Kuldeep S. Rawat. “In addition this initial ABET accreditation is retroactive to include all graduates since Fall 2013. Receiving ABET accreditation affirms that we have met a series of standards. As graduates of an ABET accredited program our students are receiving a marketable degree through relevant curricula and that the program provides industry with highly competent employees” Rawat said.
ECSU has 28 undergraduate degree offerings and four graduate degree programs flexible study options and research opportunities. The university was most recently named by Washington Monthly as one of the “Best Bang for the Buck” institutions.
