ECSU student vies for Toyota Green Initiative prize

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE–Donyai Moffatt, a junior from Kinston, N.C., majoring in aviation science at Elizabeth City State University, is one of five students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities participating in the 2014 Toyota Green Initiative Contest. The Toyota Green Initiative (TGI) is a movement to help participants find smart, simple ideas that can make an environmental impact in their community. Working with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), TGI is leading the way to a better tomorrow. Moffatt reached the semi-final phase of the contest and won $500 to use towards executing a suitable project to green the campus. Moffatt implemented a bike-loaner program (March 14- April 14) for ECSU students that made bikes available between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays. Bike use reduced the reliance on energy consuming vehicles. Now through May 1, he needs votes from the community in support of his project to in order to qualify for the grand prize.
