FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE— Elizabeth City State University’s Bearer of the Mace is Marisol N. Denney, an elementary education major from Barranquilla, Columbia (South America), who graduated Summa Cum Laude (a category of students whose cumulative grade point average lists between 3.8 and 4.0). The privilege of bearing the Mace is reserved for the non-transferring senior who has the highest cumulative grade point average. The Mass, representing the ceremonial symbol of authority, 70 inches tall, was designed by ECSU Art Professor Alexis Joyner. Denney led 312 students (undergraduates and graduate students) into Roebuck Stadium today for the 158th Commencement Ceremony
