The Eastern Area Health Education Center (EAHEC) has moved into its new home on the campus of Elizabeth City State University. The EAHEC’s sub-center for health education is now housed at the ECSU Pharmacy Complex. The EAHEC is a nonprofit organization serving 23 northeastern North Carolina counties with healthcare workforce development, professional education and technical assistance for healthcare transformation.
The university’s partnership with EAHEC was announced last June after the health education organization, based in Greenville, North Carolina, received at $700,000 grant from The Duke Endowment to fund the new sub-center. The partnership will allow the EAHEC to concentrate its efforts toward improving human health and wellness across seven surrounding counties: Pasquotank, Perquimans, Hertford, Gates, Chowan, Currituck and Camden.
Elizabeth City State University’s partnership with EAHEC is a part of Chancellor Stacey Franklin Jones’s mission to promote health and wellness through the Path to Prominence. By promoting the health and wellness of not only the university community, but also the surrounding counties, ECSU is working toward ensuring a sustainable future for students and the region.
ECSU has 28 undergraduate degree offerings and four graduate degree programs, flexible study options, and research opportunities. The university was most recently ranked first on Washington Monthly’s list of ‘Best Baccalaureate Colleges.’
