Spring Arts Festival is April 12-15

March 31, 2005Elizabeth City State University’s School of Arts and Humanities will host its first arts festival, &quotSharing the Arts&quot April 12-15 to highlight the work of performing artists in music, drama, art and photography. A committee of ECSU faculty, staff and community representatives organized the festival. Several guests from the community will participate in the festival. Dr. Jennifer Keane-Dawes, dean of the ECSU School of Arts and Humanities, said the goal was to create an event the entire community could enjoy and learn from. Art, she said, is a reflection of the human soul, which makes us aware of our potential, limitations and challenges we thought not possible. &quotArt stimulates us to live and interact with others at a higher level. The human spirit is always in search of, in need of something that encourages it. In the arts we look for opportunities to encourage the heart,&quot Keane-Dawes said. &quotThis is a way to have the community and the university interface to present art in a passionate way. The School of Arts and Humanities is the pulse of art in this community. We want to beat and have the community beat along side us.&quot The arts festival, &quotSharing the Arts&quot is open to the public and all events are free of charge. A list of events follows: April 12 An art and photographic exhibit, 10 a.m. in the Art Gallery, room #133, of the Fine Art Complex. The Albemarle Dance Academy will present a ballet at 1 p.m. in the Floyd L Robinson Auditorium-Fine Arts Complex. Pasquotank Arts Council exhibit, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the auditorium of the Fine Arts Complex. The exhibit will display materials available at the Arts Council. The display includes paintings, hand crafts, brochures, membership applications photos from the PAC Photography club crafts from the Albemarle Craftmen’s Guild. All of the items displayed will be available for sale. Pay by cash or check. Mr. Therbia U. Parker presents Black memorabilia, 2 p.m. in the Floyd L Robinson Auditorium, the Fine Arts Complex. The American Quilt Exhibit featuring work by local quilters at 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the lobby of the Floyd L Robinson Auditorium, the Fine Arts Complex. The complete works of Shakespeare, (Abridged) 4 p.m. in The Little Theatre. The Spring Arts concert, &quotSharing the Arts,&quot 7 p.m. in the auditorium of the Fine Arts Complex. This evening includes performances by the ECSU/Albemarle Community Orchestra, the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, The Collegians Jazz Ensemble, and the University Choir. Individual faculty and students are also scheduled to perform. April 13 The complete works of Shakespeare, (Abridged) at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. The Little Theatre. A medley of African-American spirituals by Dr. Glenda Griffin, 10a.m. to 12 p.m. in Moore Hall Auditorium. An art exhibit from the Pasquotank Correctional Institute from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in lobby, of the Floyd L Robinson Auditorium-The Fine Arts Complex. Web site design showcase at 2 p.m. in room #246 of Moore Hall. The American Quilt Exhibit film, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. daily in the lobby of the auditorium, the Fine Arts Complex. The Miss and Mr. ECSU Pageant at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of the Fine Arts Complex. April 14 A panel discussion, &quotUnderstanding Legal Boundaries&quot at 10 a.m. in Moore Hall Auditorium. A poetry and short story extravaganza at 2 p.m. in the G. R. Little Theatre. ECSU students will present original poems and short stories. The American Quilt/Film Exhibit, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the lobby of the auditorium in the Fine Arts Complex. The complete works of Shakespeare (Abridged) at 4 p.m. in The Little Theatre. The Chamber of Commerce’s Business After Hours, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the lobby of the auditorium in the Fine Arts Complex. The Collegians Jazz Ensemble’s spring concert, &quotSwing into Spring,&quot 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Fine Arts Complex. The Faculty Quintet and the Jazz Ensemble present big band jazz music for this annual spring concert. April 15 A pre-school art exhibit, from the Laboratory School, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in McLendon Hall. The art appears courtesy of the students in the Laboratory School, a five-star rated preschool. The American Quilt Exhibit/film, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. daily in the lobby of the auditorium, the Fine Arts Complex. A geological sciences exhibit at 7 p.m. in the lobby of the Jimmy R. Dr. John Adams, of Old Dominion University, will speak at 6 20 p.m. on &quotMathematical Patterns in Nature.&quot ECSU students will receive awards from their exhibit Dr. Lars Helgeson, the University of North Dakota, will speak at 8 p.m. &quotThe Human Brain in Art &amp Science&quot Muddy Waters will sponsor a moonlight tea at 9 p.m. Saturday, April 16
