ECSU team earn trophies in Honda Campus All-Star Challenge

April 09, 2005 The ECSU Honda Campus All-Star Challenge Team made it to the final four in the recent 16th HCASC National Championship Tournament in Orlando, FL. The team played exceptionally well in this academic competition. Sixty-four teams from Historically Black Colleges and Universities across the country competed in this academic event. The team was comprised of Warren Gibbs (Captain), Arkeem Fleming, Jerome Gillis, Kimberly Hoggard, and Emerald Lucas. Warren Gibbs also won 1st Place in the Freestyle Rap category in the All-Star Idol competition. Derrick Wilkins, ECSU’s director of Academic Computing is the team’s coach and the Campus Coordinator. The Mighty Vikings received a semi-finalist trophy, HCASC lettermen jackets, $15,000 from American Honda Motor Co., and a spot in a two-page ad in the April 18th issue of USA Today. BET Nightly News included a news report of the event during their evening broadcast.
