Tillar, Vikings receive weekly conference honors

August 30, 2005 ELIZABETH CITY, NC- Head coach Waverly Tillar led the Elizabeth City State University football team to their first opening day win in ten years over the Livingstone College Blue Bears 51-6 Saturday night at Roebuck Stadium. Subsequently, Tillar has been named the first CIAA Coach of the Week for the 2005 football season. Additionally, linebacker Emanuel Plummer and kicker/punter Kevin Dodson have been named CIAA Lineman and Specialty Players of the Week, respectively. Plummer, a native of Freeport, NY, led the Viking defense with 10 tackles (7 solo, 3 assisted) including 5 for a loss of 5 yards and a sack in the 45-point rout of Livingstone. Last season Plummer once garnered the same honor (10/23/04) and finished the season as the Vikings’ second leading tackler with 79. Dodson, who hails from Camden, NC, receives the second CIAA weekly honor of his career. A 2004 All-CIAA First Team selection and a 2005 Pre-Season pick, Dodson kept the Blue Bears pinned deep in their own territory throughout the evening with 4 of his 5 punts landing inside the 20-yard line. He totaled 214 yards and was a perfect 7 of 7 in extra point attempts. Waverly Tillar, now in his third year as the head man at ECSU, and the Viking will travel to Daytona Beach, FL this Saturday, September 3rd to take on Bethune-Cookman College.
