Vikings appear on ESPNU

January 23, 2006The Elizabeth City State University Athletic Department will host a nationally televised basketball game at the R.L. Vaughan Center next month. The mens basketball game between Elizabeth City State and Johnson C. Smith on February 9, 2006 will broadcast live at 9 p.m. on ESPNU. We are pleased that the CIAA chose ECSU to host one of its televised games for this season, says Dr. Edward McLean, ECSU Athletic Director. This is wonderful exposure for both Johnson C. Smith and Elizabeth City State and I welcome all our alumni, students and fans to come out and support this event. Im certain both the womens and mens games will be exciting. The Lady Vikings and the Lady Golden Bulls game will precede the telecast at 5:30 p.m. as ECSU’s current head women’s coach Tara Owens will square off against former ECSU and current JCSU head womens coach Vanessa Taylor. Additionally, the Urban Sports and Entertainment Group production team will conduct their annual promotions in anticipation of the 2006 CIAA Tournament in Charlotte, NC. Throughout the mens game, the contests that will take place include a free throw, slam dunk, 3-point shootout and 3-on-3 basketball game.
