Marsha McLean
October 05, 2006 The Elizabeth City State University Radio and Television Services department will host Media Day on Saturday, October 7, 2006, from 8:15 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the K. E. White Graduate Center. Media Day includes workshops and a luncheon primarily for ECSU Communication Studies majors and local area high school students who are interested in a communications career. Media Day will also celebrate WRVS-FM 89.9 radio station’s 20th anniversary. A special luncheon has been planned featuring D.J. Fountz, an alumnus who worked at WRVS as a student and is now a popular on-air personality at 103 JAMZ radio station in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. As an ECSU student, Fountz states, "I won best announcer awards every year at WRVS as well as the best show award for my underground mix show. I’ve also played on Motown and Epic Record tours and with other notable DJs and artists." Media Day workshops will include career-building sessions with a panel discussion. Panelists will include media professionals from WAVY-TV 10, 103 JAMZ and Hot 102.1 radio, and regional newspapers. For more information, contact Ms. Melba Brown, interim general manager of WRVS-FM 89.9 and W18BB-TV, at (252) 335-3985.
