Elizabeth City State University will celebrate American Education Week November 13-17, 2006. The theme for this week celebration is "Great Public Schools: A Basic Right and Our Responsibility." This theme highlights the importance of bringing together teachers, school staff, parents, students, and communities in a unified effort to build great public schools. The theme reflects the National Education Association’s (NEA) vision of calling upon America to provide public school students with quality schools so that they can grow, prosper, and achieve in the 21st century, in turn, creating a strong America. The public is invited to attend an American Education Week Assembly on Thursday, November 16 where Teachers of the Year from 19 surrounding counties, along with ECSU’s Board of Governors’ Teacher of the Year and ECSU’s Departmental Teachers will be recognized and honored. The guest speaker for this assembly will be Dr. Nettie Collins-Hart, Superintendent of Bertie County Schools.
