The 2006-07 Daktronics Division II Women’s Basketball South Atlantic All-Region teams have been released. Seven of the 10 players selected competed in last week’s NCAA Division II Tournament. Each of the three conferences in the region are well represented. The Peach Belt Conference (PBC) had four selections while the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) and the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) each had three. For Elizabeth City State University both Celeste Trahan and Deanna Price have been named to the South Atlantic All-Region First and Second Teams, respectively. Trahan, the 2007 CIAA Player of the Year, has been tabbed as a first team All-Region member for the second straight year. This past season the junior Stockton, CA native led the CIAA in scoring and rebounding and to date had 61 double-doubles in 84 career games. Just three games into her junior season, she netted her 1,000th career point and on February 1, 2007 became the first woman in school history to record 1,000 career rebounds. She is currently 5th all-time in the CIAA in rebounds and is 24th all-time in scoring. As a sophomore last season she was named to the Daktronics Third Team becoming the first female All-American in school history. Along with Trahan, Deanna Price was instrumental in ECSU attaining the first ever NCAA Post Season bid in school history. In 2006-07 she repeated as the CIAA Defensive Player of the Year after leading all Division II in steals per game. The senior guard who hails from Washington, DC has five career triple doubles, two of which she posted in the same week this season (Bowie State 1/30, Shaw 2/3). Nearing the close of her career at ECSU Deanna is 3rd and 4th respectively all time on the CIAA career leaders’ list in assists and steals.
