Ms. Barbara Sutton named Director of Alumni Relations

Elizabeth City State University announces Ms. Barbara Sutton, formerly the assistant director for Alumni Relations, has been named director of Alumni Relations. Sutton previously served as the Interim Director of Alumni Relations October 2002-June 2003 and June 2004-March 2005. She served as assistant director since March 2005. As director, Ms. Sutton’s duties will include managing the Office of Alumni Relations serving as the liaison between the university and the National Alumni Association assisting the National Alumni Association in the formation of new alumni chapters and revitalize inactive chapters assisting alumni in coordination and planning and implementation of alumni events assisting Institutional Advancement with the alumni donations and campaigns. Since 2005, Sutton’s experience as assistant director of Alumni Relations included supporting the operations of the Office of Alumni Relations serving as the liaison between the university and alumni assisting with the planning, crafting, and dissemination of information for regional conferences, National Alumni Association conferences, chapter meetings, Board of Directors meetings, and national meetings of the general body serving as the principal point of contact during Winter Homecoming/ECSU Opening House for over 1100 prospective ECSU students planning academic fairs and student recruitment activities advising and assisting with the development of fundraising initiatives related to the Pre-Alumni Club and the Pre-Alumni Endowment Scholarship coordinating and assisting with the logistical planning and implementation of activities sponsored by and for the University’s alumni, i.e. Annual Awards Banquets, Down East Viking Football Classic, Chancellor’s CIAA Breakfast, the first ECSU Founders Day Gala, and Homecoming/Class Reunions assisting in division-wide effort to increase the alumni participation rate by personally soliciting alumni and chapter leadership and devising and executing related initiatives, i.e., devising and executing the Count Me In and $26.80 Campaign, ECSU Campus Alumni Income Tax Seminar, and the Take Your Seat and the Walk of Fame Initiatives maintaining a donor portfolio of over 80 alumni as major gift prospects assisting in efforts to increase alumni membership implementing the process for the publication of a 2008 Alumni Directory through Harris Connect. In 1974, Ms. Sutton earned a B.S. degree in business administration. She is pursing a M.S. degree in public administration from Troy State University. She’s served ECSU since 1974 while working as an office assistant, an accounting technician before entering the Office of Alumni Relations.
