August 25, 2008
The ECSU volleyball team will host a pre-season scrimmage against Barton College on August 26 at the RL Vaughan Center. The Lady Vikings, coming of the most successful finish in school history at 21-11 overall, are the defending CIAA Eastern Division champions. They will return nine members from last year’s team which reached the conference semi-finals for the first time in school history. Leading the way will be All-CIAA Pre-Season selections Eva Johnson, Ashley Tarasoff and Xie’Ara Maybank-Smallings. The Lady Vikings and Lady Bulldogs will meet for their scrimmage tomorrow at 6 pm in the RL Vaughan Center. Admission is free. The Lady Vikings will open up their season on the road in a tournament hosted by Limestone College August 29-30 in Gaffney, SC. They will first face Adelphi University Friday afternoon at 3 pm. The 2008-09 athletic season begins officially this weekend when the Mighty Viking football team hosts Chowan University at Roebuck Stadium on Saturday at 7 p.m. This game will mark the first time the Vikings and Hawks will meet on the gridiron. Since this season is Chowan University’s first season as a CIAA member institution, ECSU will be their first conference opponent in football. Although they are located just a short distance away, ECSU and Chowan will be cross division rivals as the Vikings represent the CIAA Eastern Division while the Hawks are a member of the CIAA West. The cost of admission is $10 for the general public, S5 for ECSU faculty and staff with ID and is free to ECSU students with their ID.
