City and County Commissioners visited the Aviation Science Department’s Avionics Room, the Air Traffic Control Room and the Flight Simulator Classroom on January 31. The two boards were on campus to attend a quarterly joint meeting of the two boards. Mr. Bill Trueblood, a county commissioner, under the&nbspguidance of Mr. Orestes Gooden, associate professor in the ECSU Aviation Science Department,&nbsptried to land an airplane during one of the evening demonstrations.
Dr. J. Anthony Sharp, director of the Aviation Science Department, and Mr. Gooden welcomed the two boards to the department for an update on the program that is preparing aviation- and aerospace-educated employees and entrepreneurs for the local areas of Elizabeth City and Pasquotank County, North Carolina, and the nation. ECSU offers a Bachelor of Science in Aviation Science degree. Students can select from seven minors in the program.
"We were delighted to welcome these two local boards to our department for an update and a few demonstrations. We’ve acquired state of the art equipment for our students’ training. Our students are very excited about this program, the arrival of the university’s plane and all the new equipment that will prepare them for the jobs that are coming to North Carolina," Sharp said.
