Two instructors receive the 2011 Departmental Teacher of the Year award

Elizabeth City State University’s Division of Academic Affairs announces the 2011 Departmental Teachers of the Year: Dr. Kwabena Boansi, a professor in the Department of History and Political Science and Dr. Jinchun Yuan, an associate professor in the Department of Chemistry, Geology and Physics. Dr. Ali Khan, provost and vice chancellor for the Division of Academic Affairs, said the award allows the division to recognize teachers for their commitment to excellence in education.
"The recipients of this award are chosen by their peers. They are selected on the basis of their outstanding instruction, profound scholarship, and demonstrated commitment to their area of study. Their service and commitment to undergraduate research are valuable contributions to the education we offer our students," Khan said.
Committee Members for the Teacher of the Year selection include the following faculty:

- Dr. Alex Ogwu
- Dr. Thomas Rossbach
- Dr. Christopher Palestrant
- Dr. Maurice Crawford
- Mr. Orestes Gooden
In a separate category, the runner-up for the 2011 UNC Board of Governors Award for Excellence in Teaching was Dr. Ngozi Oriaku, a professor in the School of Business and Economics. Dr. Jose S. Gil, was ECSU’s recipient of the UNC Board of Governors Award for Excellence in Teaching. It is the highest teaching honor bestowed by the university and the UNC system.
