Superintendent urges students to plan their future

Dr. Joe Davis, (far right) superintendent of Washington County Schools, and local school students, visit Elizabeth City State University on February 7 during Research Week. Davis was the guest speaker for the public assembly held in the Mickey L. Burnim Fine Arts Center. Research Week, held February 3-7, is an annual weeklong series that includes guest speakers, poster displays, seminars and oral presentations by students, staff and faculty. Area school students often attend on the last day of the week to see poster displays and to see demonstrations and simulators on campus. Students from four other area schools also attended Research Week events. Davis told his audience: &quotDon’t be left standing on graduation day wondering which way to go. It’s your future and education really can make the difference. Decide what you are passionate about and determine where the need is (for your skills.) Find a university like ECSU that can properly train you in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. You have to get not just a degree, but an education. Enroll, study hard, learn, graduate, and decide where you want to go, not where just any job is available.&quot
