Elizabeth City State University students, staff, faculty and alumni celebrated the institution’s 123rd anniversary on March 7. Donnice Brown, an out of school youth administrator for the mayor’s office in Baltimore Maryland, was the speaker for ECSU’s Founders Day assembly. Brown is the great-granddaughter of the institution’s second president, Dr. John Henry Bias and his wife, Frances Lane Bias. Brown also serves on the ECSU Foundation board. During the ceremony, Chancellor Becton presided over the Memorial Candlelighting Ceremony. Mr. ECSU, Brandon Jones, lit candles in memory of students, faculty and alumni who passed away in the last year. Wreaths rested beneath the stage in memory of Hugh Cale, Dr. Peter W. Moore and Dr. John Henry Bias, the university founders.
