Chief John Manley, of University Police at Elizabeth City State University, announces two new changes in personnel: Darlene Beasley was recently promoted from sergeant to captain. In her new position, she will be responsible for patrol operations and criminal investigations. Captain Beasley has been employed five years at the university. She has 23 years of experience after working for the Elizabeth City Police Department and the Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Office. She graduated from Northeastern High School and has further education at San Antonio Community College and the College of the Albemarle. David Prevatte was recently hired as administrative captain. In his new position, he will be responsible for administrative services and Clery Compliance. Prevatte has 21 years of law enforcement experience with Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Sanford NC. He was an Administrative Lieutenant responsible for training, accreditation and budgeting. He graduated from Magnolia High School in Lumberton, N.C., and UNC – Pembroke where he majored in Criminal Justice. Additionally, he is a certified law enforcement instructor. Both Beasley and Prevatte participated in an assessment center process in December. Chief Manley welcomes both of them to their new roles and responsibilities. Their wealth of knowledge, experience and work ethic should prove to be beneficial to the university and Elizabeth City community. University Police now employs eight officers, eight security officers and nine telecommunicators/office personnel. We will continue working to bring additional personnel to fulfill our remaining vacancies.
