Twenty-three teams met at The Pines on July 17 for a golf tournament to benefit the ECSU Golf Team. This year, the golf team will include four returning athletes and two freshmen. Another student is expected to transfer to the university and become a part of the team in January. Coach Lavern Jones said the scholarships the tournament generates are essential to keeping talented student athletes on the team. Jones said he was proud the golf team received the award last semester for the ECSU sport with the highest grade point average. He hopes the team can win a CIAA conference championship as well as another award for outstanding academic performances. "Winning a conference title is your ultimate goal for a team. We look forward to working toward that goal over the next season," Jones said. "Today, I am really happy to see the number of supporters who donated as individuals, businesses or organizations. We really thank the sponsors for this event. We couldn’t do this without their help."
