Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. March Happens Monday, Jan. 16
Elizabeth City State University, in cooperation with College of the Albemarle, will celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Monday, Jan. 16 with a march, and a community panel discussion.
In addition, the 15th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Breakfast, hosted by the Elizabeth City Chapter of the National Association of University Women, will take place at 8 a.m. in the K.E. White Center. The guest speaker is Elizabeth City Police Chief Eddie Buffaloe. Tickets are $20 a person and can be purchased by calling 252-338-8827.
The march will begin at 11 a.m., in front of the G.R. Little Library on the ECSU campus. Students will march from the campus to Sheep Harney Elementary School, located on the corner of Road and Elizabeth Streets.
At Sheep Harney, a community panel discussion will take place at 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. in the school auditorium. The panel will include representatives from the Elizabeth City Police Department, the ECSU Police Department, student representatives from the College of the Albemarle and ECSU, and a representative from the Elizabeth City Chapter of the NAACP.
